LOOKBOOK NO.54

Friday, October 16, 2015

Last night I went to the VIP opening of our first H&M South Africa. I was super spoilt 'coz I was dressed by H&M for the event. I got to go pick my look from rails of samples at their HQ. I saw this dress first thing, tried it and and new I had to wear it. I paired it with their tassel necklace. I love anything with an open back and I always love a great LBD so this now has pride of place in my cupboard.

Speaking of which. I moved and had to downsize my closet from six cupboards to two. As a Fashion Editor and girl in general this was very tough. I have literally had to store some of my clothes in suitcases and had to be ruthless and chuck out. I gave away four full black bags of clothes and sold two boxes full. On the plus side, it made me remember I own some beautiful pieces and have given them new life in my wardrobe by wearing them, after not wearing them in forever. Sometimes throwing things out is actually so important. I realized how much we have but how little we actually need.

Back to H&M. This is how it's done. I wish you could all have been there. We had to register, get an armband and then line up along the red carpet to gain access. I then had to do a proper red carpet, paps and all. So funny. And then the store. It was a bit hard to see it in it's entirety because there were over a thousand guests at the launch, I never got near the accessories and shoes, mens or kiddies sections. It's that big. You need like an hour just to get your barrings. I found a pretty white summer top for R199 and the home decor department is incredibly beautiful and well priced, I bought a marble look tray for R129. The prices are legitamitely affordable, the most expensive thing I picked up was R799, so that can give you some perspective. I'm going to let the crowds come and go and in a few weeks time I'll go back for a proper look and shop. The store staff were also super helpful and happy, long may it last. Having gone as H&M's guest on behalf of the mag to their headoffice in Stockholm a few weeks ago, I could really appreciate the magnitude of opening up here. This is how I wish all our retailers would do things, local and international. H&M have raised the bar.

H&M expect over fifteen thousand feet through the doors this weekend, they open tomorrow. People are literally already camping out to be first in line, and you even have to regster for that! Let's hope others follow like Primark and Ikea. Yes local is lekker and all that, but I love fast fashion at good prices. Welcome H&M and thank you for dressing me, I felt sensational in this dress and look forward to wearing it out again, and again...

Madison heels, Witchery clutch.

P.S I spotted the dress in store so if you want one, it can be yours too!
P.P.S I also went braless for the first time, yikes! I found amazing little stick ons that did the trick though so don't be afraid of open back dresses for summer!
