PARIS TRAVEL DIARY PART 1.

Sunday, June 2, 2013

Paris stole my heart. Words don't do it justice so I am not going to even try to explain. What a magical place I got to experience with my best friend. I could live there, easily. I want to share just a few of my highlights just in case you might be going. And if you're not, aim to visit once in your life. If you do then for the best macaroons go to Laduree and Fauchon. We had the most amazing hot Chocolate at Le Saint Regis, it was basically melted chocolate - heaven. Having studied Art History a special sight for me was the Louvre and of course the view from the Eiffel Tower but most of all sitting and staring at Monet’s Water Lilies at the Museum d’Orsay. To sit and see them right in front of me was an experience I will never forget. What a sense of calm and serenity. Then the grandeur of Versailles was like nothing I have seen before. We stumbled upon a Sunday vintage flea market on Rue de Poissonniers but the most affordable shopping area was the student area around the university. And we ate. And ate. We had super affordable French cuisine right by our hotel, at Restaurant Chartier. We ate more-ish fallafel at L'as du Fallafel in the Jewish Quarter and even had delish Mexican (yes in Paris!) at Chipotle. Our mantra though was a crepe a day from most sidewalk vendors but make sure they only sell sweet treats and baguettes and aren't really a Greek restaurant claiming to make crepes too. We learn't our lesson. Most of all I fell in love with the culture of sitting at sidewalk cafes, walking the streets, the endless amount of museums, the language. It was a sensory overload, better than I had dreamed it would be. Everywhere has hardship, poverty, dirt but somehow it all seems a little prettier, and easier there. And I literally cannot wait to go back, next year.
